How to change the font size for Windows XP

Often times I hear friends and clients tell me their eyes become sore from looking at the small fonts on their Windows XP computer screens. They want to increase the font size of programs used by Windows XP but they were not aware how to do it.

This tutorial is the result of the countless times I consulted friends and clients on increasing the font size for Windows XP computers. The font size will also increase for all the programs on the Windows XP operating system.

The 2 font sizes this tutorial will change are:
  1. Start menu font size for Windows XP
  2. Icon font size for the Windows XP desktop

Change the start menu font size and

the icon font size for Windows XP

  1. First of all, in Windows XP, click on Start > Settings > Control Panel > Display

  2. From the "Themes:", select Windows Classic (Modified)

    This step is not required, but this step will help to avoid confusion because all the photos are in the "Windows Classic" style.

  1. Click on the Appearance tab.

  1. Click on the Advanced button.

  1. In the "Item:" drop down menu, select Menu.

  2. In the "Size" to the right of "Item", type in 18.

  3. In the "Font:" drop down menu, select Tahoma.

  4. In the "Size:" to the right of "Font", select 10.

  5. To the right of "Color", Click on the B

  6. Click on OK.

  1. Click on the Advanced button.

  1. In the "Item:" drop down menu, select Icon.

  2. In the "Size" to the right of "Item", type in 32.

  3. In the "Font:" drop down menu, select Tahoma.

  4. In the "Size:" to the right of "Font", select 10.

  5. To the right of "Color", Click on the B

  6. Click on OK.
